Assam : Job Melas cancelled in almost all districts due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’

The District Employment Exchanges have cancelled almost all the job fairs that was scheduled to be held in most of the districts in Assam on January 4, 2022.

Officials of almost every District Employment Exchanges in the state have recently started issuing out notices that the job melas (job fairs) had to be cancelled from being held next month due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’.

“It is for general information to all concerned that the Job-Mela scheduled to be held on dated 4th January, 2022 is hereby cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances vide Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training, Rehabari, Ghy-08, Assam letter No. DTE(E)M-304/2021/9 dated 24.12.2021,” said a notification issued by the District Employment Exchanges.

The job melas has been organized in order to give suitable job opportunities to the unemployed youths in Assam.

However, a ruckus was created in a job mela that was organized at Rehabari in Guwahati on December 23,2021.

A number of unemployed youths rushed to the job mela hoping to get a stable job in the government sector but to their dismay, the counters in the government arranged program was filled with private companies.

After the controversies regarding the “job mela” by the Assam Government, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that actions will be taken against officials behind the mismanagement of the program.

“Before organizing such a program, there should have been newspaper advertisements clearing out that the jobs would be from private companies,” he added

He had also said that the mela could have been organized online to prevent the crowd.

State skill, employment, and entrepreneurship minister Chandra Mohan Patowary had earlier said that the next job mela in Assam will be held online.

However, the government has not issued any date on when the next job mela is going to held and whether it will be conducted online or offline.
