How to Make the Right Career Choice

With the exams of various boards having been declared or yet to be given across the country, it is now the time for you to choose a career which can be the pathway to a successful life in the future.

Here are some tips which you can follow to make a right and satisfactory career choice-

Conduct a SWOT analysis

SWOT stands for Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats. Firstly, think properly and note down the areas where you are excellent, good and bad in three separate columns. Put aside the things that you have considered to be bad.

Make a list of suitable occupations favourable for you

Look at the list of excellent and good things that you have jotted down. Once you have done that, again cross out some of the areas that you have considered yourself good without putting much thought or in unconfidence. Now search out the opportunities or the list of occupations of your favourable areas of interest.

Conduct research thoroughly on your areas of interest

While searching your favourable areas of interest, find out the job opportunities, advancement opportunities, potential incomes, research scopes in your areas of interest and how will it influence your career in future.

Make a shortlist of your plans and decisions

Choose only those occupations in your areas of interest that have genuinely made you confident that it will shape your career. You should end up with two to five occupations on your shortlist. Get rid of any occupation if you are unable or unwilling to fulfill the educational or other requirements, or if you lack some of the soft skills necessary to succeed in it.

Conduct informational interviews

With the few occupations in your list, access your LinkedIn profile (open it if you don’t have one) and seek advice from people who work in the occupations in which you are interested. They will be able to give you a sound knowledge of their experiences and you can know more about your occupations of interest.

Make your career choice

After getting a good amount of information regarding your areas of interest, choose a career that you think will bring you the most satisfaction based on all the information you have gathered.

Write down your career goals

Finally, after choosing your dream career, write down the goals which you want to fulfill in the future and start working towards it.
